Happy MonYAY everyone! Hope you’re all well and had an amazing weekend. We know it’s Monday and the new week blues are infectious but here at Profusion HQ we like to take full advantage of a new week of living, laughing and inspiring each other. Monday’s also involve coworker catch-ups discussing all the weekend fun we got up to and yes, that includes the Netflix shows we binge watched. This is a judgement-free zone and we encourage binge watching awesome TV (if you’ve accomplished everything on your to-do list). While some may say watching excessive amounts of Netflix is bad for you, we like to see it as a finely tuned skill in paying attention for long periods of time, while absorbing a ton of information simultaneously. Like everything in life though too much of a good thing can end up being harmful so we suggest not doing this every day.
Binge watching as a term is all relative really. It could mean you watch 10 episodes on a Saturday or 1 every-day of the week. Which is why when Monday comes around, you can always count on having shows to add to your list. You’d be surprised at how much tuning out from the stresses of your day and being thrown into the lives of fictional characters can really relax you. Less stress means more sleep, better skin and a perfect base for applying makeup in the morning. When all is said and done, Team Profusion is still beauty obsessed so naturally we take makeup inspiration from everything we encounter; including these shows set in a ton of different decades. Basically, this is a post professing our love of Netflix and cosmetics.
We’ve rounded up 11 complete TV shows now streaming on Netflix because there is nothing worse than waiting a year for new episodes to release; by which time you’ve forgotten the whole plot line. In no particular order, here is our list of series perfect for watching on demand:
The West Wing
The kind of politics you actually want to watch with hilarious jokes, the coolest President and 7 complete seasons. Watch out for the old school makeup and style trends – you never know when they might come back into action!
How to escape prison in the craziest way possible 101. Drama, conspiracy, a whole lot of fighting and incredible costume makeup/ fake blood 😱. Watch to see how far brothers are willing to go for one another and how troublesome the prison system is.
Imagine if you found out your High School chemistry teacher had cancer and decided to manufacture and sell drugs for a living, just to pay his medical bills. Welcome to Breaking Bad. Turning an old RV into a lab is the mildest of Walter White’s decisions in this show which is probably why it's one of the most popular crime/drama television shows of all time. Look out for how they change his appearance to make him realistically look terminally ill.
Fast-talking. Coffee-centric. Drama-filled. Comedy, tears and basically the feel-good show everyone needs to watch with incredibly unique characters and an enviable mother-daughter relationship. P.S. watch out for all the different lip glosses the Gilmore girls wear aka the early 2000s staple.
The craziest plane crash that leaves a random group of people stranded on an island. Get ready to be caught up in the mystery of the island and be prepared to create an insane number of conspiracy theories. Spurred by intrigue and frustration (😬 ) this show will have you clicking ‘Next Episode’ over and over again.
Comedy. Drama. Sarcasm. Basically, get ready for non-stop laughter and everything the 90s represents. Oh, and you’ll hopefully learn how to use air quotes properly. Keep a look out for Ross doing Rachel’s makeup aka the original “My Boyfriend Does My Makeup” video.
Friday Night Lights
Football and the ultimate life lessons from Coach. Even if you’ve never played a sport, you’ll feel like Eric Taylor is your very own Coach. Find out why those three words give people all the feels and tears. Trust us, this show will have you saying, ‘Texas Forever’ on the daily. Look out for the makeup that the high school girls wear in comparison to those in TV shows now. Which representation of teenagers is more accurate?
That 70s Show
The name says it all, a comedy-filled show set in the 70s with the coolest gang of friends and parents with questionable parenting skills. Watch out for all the 70s styles and fashion to see why the era is still so popular for fashion designers and makeup artists. Bonus points for anyone who knows the number of times the word ‘Burn’ is said in this show. Hint: it’s a lot!
Find out if you’re Team Blair or Team Serena and why Gossip Girl is so obsessed with them. Who’s Gossip Girl you ask? The person behind a blog that spills everyone’s secrets and scandals. Indulge in this show for all things Upper East Side and New York City. Get inspired by the characters’ incredible wardrobe and see how minimal makeup can look elegantly chic.
One Tree Hill
Teenage drama and angst turned dark, twisty and full of real-world issues, ethics and morals. The show has a little bit of EVERYthing in its 8 seasons and a mid-series jump of five years. Flash back to the early 2000s when tracksuits were all the rage, cell phones could flip-shut and high school basketball was THE sport to play. Look out for all the adolescent characters (male & female) wearing a ridiculous amount of makeup to cover up the norms of puberty. 🙄
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The only vampire show that counts, before all the Twilight and Vampire Diaries hype, starring the coolest vampire slayer around: Buffy. Shot in the 90s this show slays (no pun intended) the vampires creating game, with prosthetic makeup that took 1 hour and 20 mins per vamp – that’s dedication. Not to mention all the intricately scary villains that must’ve taken hours to create, without all the special effects available in today’s world. You’ll love watching the original Girlboss who saves the world, one vampire at a time.
There you have it – the Profusion approved list of shows to binge watch. By no means is this a list of all the completed shows on Netflix, these are just some of our favorites. Let us know in the comments if you have any shows you recommend watching and why you love them. Until next week!
