It had so much potential!

Profusion! Why oh why did you break my heart?

I have nearly 20 palettes from Profusion. I adore nearly everything, even the Neon and Spectrum palettes that get some bad press from many. So I placed another order for 6 palettes, and I love the Naturals and Sapphires palettes. Same excellent quality, color story, and payoff. I also love the Love You So Brunch palette, and other than the disgusting packaging, the To The Moon palette from this collection is great quality and color story. But two of the palettes have disappointed me. The Afternoon Tea palette (in addition to the same icky packaging as To The Moon), and this have a different quality of the shadows themselves, and that makes me so sad!

I ADORE Profusion (did I mention that I have a BUNCH of palettes from them?), and I needed this one to be amazing. The packaging is cute, I won't lie. The floating glitter is silly, but fun. And it's purple, so points. I also like that there's a sticker picturing the color story, stuck on the front. That's pretty smart. The packaging is the best quality from any Profusion palette I've had. heavy and sturdy plastic. And the mirror is nice.

But the shadows? Well, the color story is amazing. In addition to the great range of purples, the mustard yellow, bright pink and teal, and the orange/pink and silver glitters really made me excited . . . so much so that I tossed this into my cart with 6 other goodies (including the foundation, which I haven't tried yet) and ordered it ASAP.

The vertical row on the right are shimmery. The color payoff is good, but they are not the quality I expect with Profusion shimmers. These look like they will have more sparkle, but applied, are more of a satin finish. That's not all bad, but not what I expected. The middle teal color in that row is a diamond shimmer, which means it's matte with flecks of glitter. And that one actually goes on quite nicely if a bit dry. The glitter hangs around, but might dust off with time. The top right shade is almost a topper, but it does take quite a bit of pressure to dig in and get payoff, and I doubt you'd get anything with a brush. This is a finger-only sort of shade. The bottom purple is a nice satin finish and rich payoff, and because it's not super shimmery, might work to deepen some of the other colors.

The glitters are just that . . . pressed glitters. The silver has reflects of pink, blue, and yellow, and is nice enough. The better one is the bottom ("OMG") shade that is not quite pink and not quite rose. Almost a pink-toned rust, or a deep rose gold? Quite unique, and I think it adds a lot to the palette . . . if you don't mind glitters.

Now for the mattes, which are the other 4 shades. The mauve in the top middle is pretty, but doesn't really pick up. It takes quite a bit of work to get it to build, and that's just not worth the work. The mustard yellow performs better, but still takes a bit of building. But it's quite a pretty shade, and unique in this color story. The bright pink in the middle is better than those, but Profusion has other pinks that work so much better, and I don't know why companies change to lesser formulas when they have a great formula to start with! The purple in the bottom left is actually quite good comparatively.

One thing that might be an improvement from the previous matte formula is that these really don't have fallout. The older formula has a bit of kickup, but that makes them perform well. So maybe that's what they were going for here?

For the price point and packaging, it's nice, and you can certainly get some nice looks from the palette, but I hope this was a one-off for Profusion, trying new things, and that they will return to what makes them so good! Give us cheaper cardboard packaging and no mirror. I'm fine with that. Just make this color story in the original Profusion quality, and you got me! I'll buy every single one they put out!
